Towards the old city: Piazza del Ferrarese
The Piazza dei Baresi and the main access point to the ancient village

Piazza del Ferrarese , dedicated to a merchant from Ferrara due to the impact he left on some of the buildings still present in the square today, is one of the oldest and longest-lived places in Bari .
Built in the seventeenth century to facilitate the entry of goods from the old port , at that time near the square , it is the main access point to the oldest of the city of Bari , the ancient village .
The square acts as a bridge between the old town and the new city, and is therefore frequented daily by Bari residents and tourists.
From Piazza del Ferrarese, you can also access another ancient square, called Piazza Mercantile , and, above all, the famous Via Venezia, also known as the “Muraglia,” the oldest city walls in Bari, from where you can admire the seafront and the old port area from above.

Piazza del Ferrarese , renovated several years ago, still retains part of the square's original paving (visible near the central area); this excavation uncovered the remains of the older paving, and it's still possible to see the ruts left by the carts that once entered the city.
Rich in history, bars, and people strolling by, Piazza del Ferrarese has become a must-see for anyone visiting Bari ; a true meeting point for young people and families, and also a relaxing spot for the many tourists who want to stop and breathe in the air of Bari , the sea (adjacent to the square), and the warmth of the people of Bari.
