Kursaal, the Art Nouveau theatre
A jewel in the heart of Bari's waterfront: the Kursaal Santalucia Theatre

If you are passionate about history, theatre and above all the Art Nouveau style Bari's very long seafront will certainly attract your attention .
The Kursaal Santalucia Theatre is one of those theatres that have made the history of this city, also by virtue of its external appearance, which undoubtedly makes it one of the most beautiful and characteristic buildings built in Bari .
The Kursaal Santalucia , designed in 1925 in late Italian Art Nouveau , has had various uses, including, over time, a cinema as a theatre . In its early years, it was even used as a rehearsal room for performances at the Petruzzelli Theatre , another jewel of Bari and not far from the Kursaal Santalucia .
The theater , which seats approximately 400 people and houses several precious paintings and frescoes, underwent meticulous restoration work between 2020 and 2021. This work has also made it a technological highlight, with the stalls now equipped with cutting-edge technology, while the seats literally disappear under the floor (thanks to a specially designed automation system) to accommodate other types of events and transform the space into a large, welcoming hall.
Therefore, the Kursaal Santalucia theatre is certainly part of the quadrilateral of the most beautiful, famous and lived-in theatres in Bari together with the famous Petruzzelli theatre , the Margherita theatre (built directly on the sea) and the Piccinni theatre , the municipal theatre of the city located on the famous Corso Vittorio Emanuele , in the beating heart of Bari .
