Among the tallest and most famous lighthouses in Italy is the one in Bari: the San Cataldo Lighthouse dominates the coast
The San Cataldo Lighthouse is undoubtedly one of the most historic and long-lived structures in the city of Bari .
Built in 1869, the lighthouse is still in full operation today, and with its approximately 66 metres of height and 380 steps (among the highest in Italy), it continues to be a point of reference for ships and fishing boats passing through the city's port .
The building is located in the northernmost area of Bari , precisely in the exhibition district , and is characterised by its octagonal shape; obviously, like all lighthouses, the San Cataldo had its famous keeper with related tasks to carry out, but with the passing of the years and above all with the development of new technologies, all the operations necessary for its functioning are now controlled electronically by the Harbour Master's Office .

currently closed to the public, even though it opened to the public to celebrate its 150th anniversary . However, you can admire it while strolling along the seafront , and whether day or night, the lighthouse always holds its own. If you happen to visit in the evening, you can observe its powerful beam of light, visible from several kilometers away . Another idea is to enjoy the view, perhaps with a fried panzerotto or gelato (there are several bars and pizzerias nearby, right by the sea). - Take a taxi (they are located at the entrance to the station)
- Rent a car and reach the San Cataldo lighthouse area on your own.
