In the heart of the Itria Valley, a labyrinth of whitewashed alleys: welcome to the village of Cisternino

What to see in Cisternino, Puglia

In the beautiful Itria Valley , the authentic and beating heart of Puglia , another ancient village emerges which, together with those of Alberobello , Locorotondo , Martina Franca and Ostuni (they are all very close to each other) certainly deserves a pleasant visit.

In fact, among expanses of olive trees, vineyards and trulli , we find a village also listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" , whose labyrinth of white alleys that characterise this charming historic centre will lead you to the continuous discovery of the typical Apulian charm, of its houses and of the scents that envelop the streets and squares of Cisternino .

To visit the village of Cisternino, you don't need a specific itinerary. Indeed, the beauty of this place lies in letting your instincts guide you and wandering aimlessly, because every road or shortcut you take will always be a pleasant surprise. If you need a reference point to begin your Cisternino experience , then we recommend starting your journey from the Municipal Pine Forest and the Belvedere della Valle d'Itria .
From here, you can not only enjoy a wonderful view, but above all, head towards the old town , which is just a few meters ahead, recognizable by a small uphill road with the typical Cisternino .

Cisternino, a must-see Apulian villageThe Cisternino begins right by climbing this street (Via San Quirico) which leads to the Church of San Nicola ; from here, a side street will take you into the village of Cisternino, as well as towards Piazza Vittorio Emanuele , the main square of this precious ancient village whose "Clock Tower" will surely become your main reference point. In this square, in fact, you can first enjoy a delicious gelato and then finally begin to delve into the splendid labyrinth of Cisternino's historic center , as well as immersing yourself in the style of its houses, small boutiques, bars, trattorias, and charming souvenir shops. Speaking of eating, just know that walking through the alleys of the historic center means being seduced by the aromas coming from the local kitchens and especially from the butcher shops with grills! Yes, because if there's one thing you won't be able to resist trying once you're there, it will most likely be a delicious plate of Apulian "bombette" ; These are delicious meat rolls, usually filled with cheese and cured meats, but the toppings are also up to the butcher's discretion. These meat bombette are typical of the Itria Valley , can be served with bread, and you'll obviously also find them in beautiful Cisternino .
