In the beating heart of the city of Bari , an extraordinary place stands as a testimony to centuries of history, innovation and culture: the Museum of Lighthouses and Radio .

A destination every enthusiast of history, technology, art, and the sea should visit. It's not just a place for learning, but an experience that stimulates curiosity, reflection, and imagination. Every corner tells a story, every room invites you to discover a new aspect of our culture and identity. A journey that begins with the lighthouses and reaches the radio waves , crossing the sea of creativity and knowledge.

The rooms of the San Cataldo Lighthouse Museum

The museum tour begins in the external wing with an information point providing informative materials. Upon entering, visitors arrive at the Lighthouse Room, where the history of the San Cataldo Lighthouse comes to life through engaging panels, images, and videos . The main stages of its construction are retraced, accompanied by images by Nicola Amato and the stories of Gaetano Serafino , who shares his experience beneath the lantern . Visitors can also admire models of historic lighthouses, books, and documents that recount the evolution of these fascinating instruments.

But it's not just history that comes to life at the San Cataldo lighthouse in Bari : in the same room, an exhibition of Fresnel optics and lanterns allows us to understand how these marvels of technology work. A visit that is not only a journey into the past, but also an opportunity to discover the ingenuity behind the lights that have guided entire generations of navigators.

The Story of Marconi and Radio Waves

The journey continues in the second room, where radio takes center stage. A panel dedicates space to Guglielmo Marconi and the inauguration of the Bari Radiotelegraph Station in 1904 , when an incredible event occurred: the first radio transmission between Bari and Bar (a city in Montenegro), another step that marked a true revolution in communications. In this section, thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Radio Amateurs Association and collector Alfredo Chiantera historic radios are exhibited that recount the evolution of radio transmissions.

An immersive experience with contemporary art

The tour culminates in a multimedia room where visitors can fully immerse themselves in the museum . Thanks to technology, a specially equipped room with a video projector offers additional video content, which delves deeper into the history of the lighthouses, the radio, and the artworks on display . A truly sensory experience that connects past, present, and future in a single, engaging moment.
